Blake Briscoe has studied and performed world percussion and music since 2005. He has received instruction from teachers such as; Souhail Kasper, Yuval Ron, Pir Shabda Khan, Saadi Shakur Chisti, Tobias Roberson, Darbuka Dave Mackek, August Hoerr, Daveed Korup, Raquy Danziger, and Matin Mize to name a few.

Blake’s specialization is in belly dance and folk rhythms of the Middle East, Southeastern Europe and North Africa with special emphasis on Romani, Turkish and Egyptian Tabla, as well as, North African, Middle Eastern and Tasawwuf (Sufi) frame drum.

He teaches all levels of belly dance and folk percussion through the traditional oral/aural folkloric methods, which benefits the “western” student by developing an “ear” for the “non-western” odd time signature centered music.

On occasion he conducts workshops on Middle Eastern music theory known as maqamat, Roma culture, history, and rights, Native Middle Eastern mysticism of sound, Middle Eastern musical improvisation known as taqsim, and leads the Dances of Universal Peace http://www.dancesofuniversalpeace.org/
